AMARNATH SHARMA

“The large scale visuals of the huge infrastructure of the urbanized city, big buildings, and flyovers have influenced my work. The conflict of urban visual in comparison to my rural native reflects and impacts the larger than life size images that I represent.”

Born in 1979, the artist received two degrees in B.A. (fine) in painting: one from Patna College of Art, 1995, and B.A. (fine) in painting from M.S. University, Baroda, 2000; and M.A. (fine) in painting from M.S. University, Baroda, 2002. He was the recipient of several awards few of which were Good performance award from Patna College of Arts in 1995 and in 2000 - Nasreen Mohmadni Award from painting, Baroda. He has participated in solo shows in Baroda, Mumbai and several group shows in Mumbai, New Delhi, Baroda, Kolkata, Hong Kong, Hyderabad, Bihar, Kolkata. He has also participated in many art camps and workshops in Ahmedabad, Rangur, Patna, Mt. Abu, Russia, and Indonesia amongst others.

The large canvas of the artist contains the memories of his childhood, his life experiences, nature and a myriad of symbolism that he creates using layers of paints on screen print on the canvas. Covering them completely with paints and at times leaving space empty the foggy effect thus created gives a see through effect to his paintings.

A visual and installation artist, the effect on his canvases is visually stimulating and stylized, the sombre colours, detailed work stand expression to the daily struggles, and pathos that the people face in their daily existence in a city life. Although he has also experimented with clay and graphics painting is his forte and he works with acrylic. Teaching children the artist finds a newer perspective to life.
