Arun Kumar Samadder

Late artist Arun Samaddar was born in 1947 and obtained Diploma inVisual Art from Indian collage of Art Draftsmanship, Kolkata in the 1978-79 batch. The artist participated in innumerable group shows since 1975 in Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore including the Lalitkala State Exhibition in Orissa. He had his first solo exhibition was in 1984. This was followed by other exhibitions in 1988, at the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata. The next solo presentation of his work took place in the year 2002, followed by another solo exhibition was held in Mumbai. Thereafter at the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata in 2006- 2009. His work has been exhibited through group shows both nationally and internationally in Dacca, Thailand and as a participating contemporary artist in invited exhibition at Indonesia. In the recent years a retrospective has been done on his works at Academy of Fine Arts, in 2021. Many of his paintings figure in the art collections of political dignitaries, Industrial houses, national banks the Birla Archaeological Museum & Research Institute Hyderabad, , and corporate houses globally. Essentially figurative, the characters tell many a tales from Indian mythology. In subdued hue the characters get the gravity they seek, the peace and calmness gets translated into a beautiful and meaningful creation. Skilled and sensitive the works leave a lingering touch in the hearts of his spectators.
