BINOY VARGHESE

Binoy Vargeshe has done his National Diploma in Fine Arts from R.L.V College of Fine Arts, Kerala. He has worked at Madhavan Nair Foundation India in Kochi, and then at the Cholamandalam Artists’ Village in Chennai, and as an artist-in-residence at the Kanoria Art Centre in Ahmedabad, and the Banff Centre for Arts in Canada. He is the recipient of the Kerala State Award and the National Academy Award. The artist has participated in both local shows in India, and in international shows in Canada, USA, Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai, Thailand, London, South Africa, Denmark, Italy and Bangladesh. In 1996, Max Mueller Bhavan and Arnawaz Vasudev Trust in Chennai named Binoy Varghese as the ‘Artist of the Month’. He draws his inspiration from photography, cinema and digital media and converts them into a very soft yet expressive art. The recent works of the artist revolves around mature body of works involving detailed imagery, with those of women and children. The inherent innocence and purity of his protagonists captured thus gets translated in his canvas through his photorealist paintings with colourful background depicted sensitively.
