HAREN THAKUR

Born in 1953 in Pathardhi, Jharkhand, the artist Haren Thakur did his Diploma in Fine Art, Kalabhavan, Shantiniketan Visvabharati University – 1975 and a short course with Creative Theatre Designing, National School of Drama – 1980. He has participated in several combined groups and solo shows and in different art camps all across the country. He has been the founder of Chotanagpur Art Research and Development Society, Ranchi Jharkhand. His works are in collection in several galleries across the country. Recipient of several awards, the most noteworthy are Academy of Fine Art Award – 1997, AIFCS Award – 2004, Chintamoni Kar Award amongst others. His paintings speak of his intimate touch with nature, the tribal life and its elements from close proximity which he experienced studying in Santiniketan. Spanning four decades he creates the idyllic rural landscapes of Jharkhand through mix medium on Nepalese rice paper.
