MRINAL KANTI GAYEN

“I see rhythm in everything. Rhythm is a bioscope through which I view all these elements. I have been essentially trying to encapsulate organic rhythm in the work. The rhythm is omnipresent. My attempt has been to reduce the volumetric solidity of the sculptures to lyrical negative spaces which reverberates the rhythm of life.”

Born in 1971 in Sunderbans where the formative years of the artist was in the beautiful and captivating Sunderbans which helped develop his love for nature and seeing and believing in the interdependence of man with his surrounding flora and fauna. That love has transferred beautifully to his creative efforts. Most of his works portray motion in some form. His sculptures are beautiful extension of his sensitive mind in love with nature. His series of sculptures in bronze makes one wonder whether they are actually flowing such is the lucidity which it creates and such is the mastery of the artist over it.
