Born in 1974,the artist completed with a 1 st Class in Advance Diploma in Fine Arts (Painting) from Kala-Bhavana, Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, 1999 and also completed with a 1 st Class in Diploma in Fine Arts (Painting) from Kala-Bhavana, Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, 1997.

He has participated in several major solo and group shows in India and Bangladesh. Some of the noteworthy ones: solo show at Harrington Street Art Centre and the Seagull Foundation for the Art, Calcutta 2019; again in 2019 he had another solo at Bihar Museum, Patna, Artshila, and The Seagull Foundation for the Art, Calcutta; followed by solo shows in Bangladesh, New Delhi, Vadodara, Kolkata and Santiniketan.

Some of the noteworthy group shows are: ‘A Season of Conviviality’ Kala Bhavana after 100 years, An exhibition of Teachers and Senior Students of Kala Bhavana and Visva Bharati, at Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi 2022; KG Subramanyan- remembering our beloved Mani Da,Organized by NAF, New Delhi 2021; “ENDURING LEGACY”; A show of contemporary artists from Bengal. 13 th May - 11 th June, 2011, Galerie Neumeister, Munich and 24 th June – 15 th JULY, Tagore Centre Berlin; “DAEGU - INDIA” International Art Exchange Exhibition 2015 at Deagu Culture and Art Centre , South Korea; and also in Bangladesh, Vadodara Kolkata and Bengaluru. The artist has been the recipient of several National and International Grants.

Sahajahan uses mixed media on canvas, on paper, enamel, in his reverse paintings as part of his fragmented narratives of pain, disillusionment, twisted mental state of human lives disrupted.

In the words of the artist, “I build my painting composition in a way that evokes drama alongside a loose constellation of bits and pieces that reveal themselves in the form of decorative surfaces.”

Currently he is an assistant professor, Kala Bhavana, Painting, Visva-Bharati. Santiniketan.
