SUBRATA GANGOPADHYAY

The artist was born in Kolkata in 1959 and graduated from Govt. College of Art & Crafts, Calcutta in 1980 with First-class-first Diploma in Paintings (Life-Nature and Murals).
Considered as one of the renowned modern artist of India in the realist tradition, he had a long stint in the communication industry and is one of the favourite artists with the art lovers.
As an extremely realistic artist his figures almost come to live with a fluid movement colourful and emotional body language. The treatment of the strong lines, the technique of his colour usage and his skills as a virtuoso draftsman come to life on the canvas as his women figures evoke strong emotion in the viewer. His works, depicting, ‘Dancers’ and the ‘Women’ series are unparalleled.

In his 48 years of career span, he has participated in various national, international exhibitions and art camps. Since 1990 to 2014 he has had several solos in different parts of India and abroad in Philadelphia, USA and five international group exhibitions in Japan, Dubai, Bangladesh, and London. Since 1976 to 2021 he has participated in several national group shows in Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and Hyderabad. He also attended several art camps nationally and internationally from 1976 to 2017.

His works are in collection in several famous places like Victoria memorial hall, Calcutta, Bengal Club,Taj group of hotels, RPG enterprises, Maharaja of Jodhpur amongst others.
