About Artist
Mrinal Dey
Born in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, the artist did his Bachelor of Fine Arts 2001-2005 and his Master of Fine Arts 2005-2007 in painting from Indira Kala Sangeet University, Khairagarh, Chhattisgarh, India.
He became the winner of several prestigious international and national awards like Pollock-Krasner foundation grants, New York, 2010.The Elizabeth Green shields foundation grant, Montreal, Canada, 2008. He received ‘China govt. scholarship’, H.R.D New Delhi, India, 2008. And nationally- Gold medal – “Agnipath” New Delhi, India, 2005; Cash award from All India Fine Arts and Craft Society (A.I.F.A.C.S.) New Delhi, India, 2006; Certificate award from South Central Zone, Nagpur, (Maharashtra), India, 2004; State award from Nehru art gallery, Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, India, 2002.

He has participated in several national Art workshop/Camp/Residency by Lalitkala Akademy, New Delhi, at Porbandar Gujrat, 2023, Art Camp- Shimla Art Festival, 2023 Himachal State Museum, Shimla, Art Camp- Collaboration with Ministry of Culture, Jammu, 2023, Kochi Biennale Residency program for two month at Pepper House, Kochi, Kerala, India, 2018 amongst others.
He conveys several contemporary issues through his humongous figures of men. Their postures and the juxtaposition of the elements in the canvas create a story and become the voice of the artist. These skilled works revolving round the semi Buddha like male figures often stand out as the mouth piece of social issues.
