Subhendu Sarkar

Subhendu looks at the life as an endless stream of images and ecstacy. Sometimes those are associated with nature, and sometimes his thoughts plunge into abstraction.

Born in Kolkata in 1977, the artist did his art education both the Bachelors and Master’s in Visual Art from Government college of Art & Craft in 2001 and 2004 respectively.

He has been awarded National Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture.

He did his first Solo Exhibition in 2009 Artists circle Gallery, Kolkata followed by in 2011, Chitrakoot art gallery, Kolkata and in 2022 at Birla academy, Kolkata.

Since 2010 the artist participated in innumerable art fairs, art shows , annual exhibitions and several other like: Imagine Art Fair, Delhi 2023, Art magnum gallery, Delhi 2023, Art Frequencies ,Kolkata, 2023, Charubasona Art gallery, Kolkata 2022, Annual Exhibition, Birla Academy of Art & culture 2002,2003,2005,2009,2011,2017,2018. Subhendu Sarkar also participated in few workshops: in 2007 at Indian National Forum of Art Culture; in 2003 painting workshop by Sanskriti Parisad Bhopal, 2015 & 2016 Painting workshop by coal India Ltd, Bilaspur.

He was the recipient of few awards like: College Award 1999, Certificate of merit 2000, Government College of art & craft, national scholarship 2001-02 (Govt of India).

A painter and a noted illustrator his controlled strokes and delicate watercolour brush works remind one of the Bengal school of paintings essentially abstract but with strong lines using wash technique.
