ATIN BASAK

Born in 1966 in Kolkata, the artist did his B.V.A from Government College of Arts and Crafts, and M.A in Printmaking from Baroda. He has participated in many solo, group and in invited shows and in art camps in India and abroad like in Paris, UK, Thailand and Dhaka. He won several awards, the most important being 1999-2000 Charles Wallace India Trust Arts Award and a scholarship from the French Government to work in their country as a visiting artist. Through the usage of texture and shade he builds his characters full of personal power. The soft sensitive imagery, the figures exude subtle power, an inner strength, deep sense of peace, a transformative depiction that is sublime. His recent work shows an influence of the East and the Orient. The recluses and the sages of his canvases, etchings and lithographs on paper, are deeply spiritual, and strong living in harmony with themselves and with nature.
