Shrabani Roy

The much talented textile artist Shrabani born in 1979 completed both her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2001, and Master of Fine Arts from Kala-Bhavana, Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, 2003 with a first class.

She also won scholarships - National Scholarship, in 2003-05; and Merit Scholarship in 2000 & 2002.

She has been awarded National Academy Award in 46th National Exhibition of Art 2003-04, organised by the Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi; and Lalit Kala Academy Prize in All India Art Exhibition from West Bengal State Academy, Kolkata in 2002.

The artist started her artistic journey with two solo exhibitions, in 2006: ‘Land of dream’ Organised by Sarjan Art Gallery, Vadodara; and later in 2008: ‘SHRABANI’S ALTERNATIVE’ Organised by Akar Prakar Art Gallery, Kolkata. This was followed by in 2015: ‘Safarnama & Continuing Traditions’ held at France –Musee de la Toile de jouy Versailles organize by India Govt collaborate with Akar Prakar, 2014: ‘Safarnama & Continuing Traditions’ A show of contemporary artists –held at Indian Museum, Kolkata, 2012: Art in Santiniketan –To –Day” held in Salar Jung Museum, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, Hyderabad.

Since 2008 to 2015 her works have been exhibited nationally and internationally in Munich, Berlin and London. From 2001 to 2017 she has been part of several group exhibitions and workshops and invited as a speaker in national and international seminars about her work.

The artist has been televised through documentary films : Pop Art in Kolkata –New Art on the Ganges, Art scene of Kolkata and of whole India, the 52 minutes documentary film shown in Swiss National Television in 2014 and ‘Shrabani’s alternative’ a short documentary in 2008. The artist also has many publications to her credit.
